History

1871

Founded in 1871 by Carl Heinrich Hellmann in Osnabruck, northern Germany, the company started as a one - man business delivering steel with a horse-drawn cart.

1906

Company name changed to Hellmann Brothers (Gebr.Hellmann) by sons Heinrich and Friedrich in Osnabruck.

1919

The transportation of furniture and coal added to the haulage products.

1935
New service launched: transportation of consolidated cargoes (ltl) with 60 employees.

1945
Company rebuilt by sons Heinz Hellmann and Emil Hellmann after World War II.

1948
On the osnabruck railway station ruins, a transshipment facility with rail connections was constructed for consolidated cargoes.

1949
New branch opened in Hamburg.

1953
New branch opened in Bremen.

1957
New service: Quickverkehr guaranteed delivery service.

1959
Joachim Hellmann founded the first forwarders alliance in Germany.

1960
Transshipment facility for consolidated cargoes was completed, in Osnabrucks Elbestrasse, with Europes first under floor chain conveyor.

1968
Company shares were transferred to Klaus and Jost Hellmann, the fourth generation.

1976
Hellmann is a founding member of Deutscher Paket Dienst (DPD) parcel service.

1980
New service: Europa-Kurier (europe courrier) introduced a guaranteed 24 - 48 hour delivery service.

1982


Warehouse built in Osnabruck. New branch opened in Hong Kong and, the start up of a worldwide network.



1984

PCO Personal Computer Organisation founded.

1986
Hellmann is a co founder of System-Gut Logistik Service (a time definite service).

1988

A merger / take over in Great Britain with Mitchell Cotts. New service: Hellmann Process Management is launched.

1990
New service: Hellmann Parcel Systems is launched in Great Britain, in cooperation with british partners.

1992
Expansion of partner network in eastern Europe.

1993
Hellmann is co-founder of Night Star Express.

1996
125th company anniversary.

1997


Joint ventures in Poland.
Since January 2004 change to Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.



1998
New branch opened; hellmann mauritius.New service: hpl hellmann perishable logistics is launchedHellmann joins Lufthansa AG business partnership program.New service: joint venture - marketing call centre.

1999

New branches opened; Turkey, South Korea and Spain.
Since 1.7. Gebr. Hellmann changed the name to Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.



2000
New branches opened: Chile, and Brazil.New joint ventures: Austria, Sweden, Hungary, Belarus and Ukraine. Hellmann is co-founder of "System Alliance".

2001

Mummert + Partner and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics receive the pilot project 9.2 of the BundeswehrSchneider Logistics and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics form a strategic alliance.Opening of the DCC (Digital Community Center) in Osnabrück

2002
Founding of the LH Bundeswehr Bekleidungsgesellschaft mbH Union between Lion Apparel and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics to form LH Bekleidungsgesellschaft, which holds 74.9 % of the shares, and g.e.b.b. with 25.1%

2003

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Mummert + Partner: conclusion of the pilot project 9.2 – German Federal Armed Forces and industy.

Successful outcome by shifting time-critical transports from truck to rail. The cooperation Stinnes/Hellmann relieves the streets by 100 truck transportations daily.



2004

Opening of the new warehouse in Shanghai with 6.000 square meters storage area and more than 2.000 square meters of office space.

Implementation of the project ,’Digital disposition. Consistent track & trace at package level in real time up to the end user.



2005

Hellmann starts the joint-venture in Chile with the company Alfinco S.A., an important provider of perishable logistics services.



2006

Opening of the new Headoffice of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Inc in Tokyo and establishment of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics in Kuwait.

Hellmann wins the Award "Global Logistics Provider (LSP) of the year 2006/2007"



2007

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics opens offices in India and Pakistan. In August the European Logistics Center (ELC) for the spare parts distribution of the MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG was put into operation in Munich.
